Thomas Russell Yow Williams, Sr.

Thomas Russell Yow Williams, Sr., Martin, Georgia, passed away on September 29, 2017.

He was 83 years old.

Tom was born in Washington, D.C., on January 27, 1934, to Copeland and Flora Yow Williams.  He graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1956.  After finishing at Tech, he served in the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant. As an entrepreneur, he was the owner of various tire companies, including Magnum Tire of Martin. He had been a proud Lions Club member, mayor, and city council member of the town he loved, Martin, Georgia. He was a member of St. Matthias Episcopal Church.

Tom is survived by three children, Russell (Rusty) Williams of Cocoa, Florida, Ruth Williams of Sharpsburg, Georgia, and Betsy Williams of Dixon, New Mexico; three grandchildren, Jennifer Harmon, Jason Strickland, and Patty Williams; one great-grandchild, Amelia; and his wife, Marjorie Hickman Williams.  

He was preceded in death by his sister, Cynthia Hilliard, and Jean Fackler Williams, his first wife.

The funeral service will be held at St. Matthias Episcopal Church in Toccoa on Friday, October 6, 2017, at 2 O’clock pm with The Reverend Doris Graf Smith and The Reverend Dr. Tommy Childress officiating.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 5, 2017, 6pm until 8pm, at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home.  Burial in the Martin Cemetery will follow the service.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers and should assemble at the funeral home by 1 O’clock pm:  David Mitchell, Bob Stovall, Mark Laroza, Charles Isiminger, Richard Westerfield and Blake Harmon.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Thomas Russell Yow Williams, Sr., may be made to any charity you support.
