Richard “Ricky” Monroe Stover

Obituary Date: Wednesday, May 24, 2017

Richard “Ricky” Monroe Stover, age 61, of Murrayville went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, following a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at Memorial Park Chapel on Saturday May 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Stephen Adams, Rev. Roger Stover, and Dr. Ron Tankersley will officiate. Interment will follow at Wauka Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday May 26, 2017 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ricky was a member of Cavenders Creek Baptist Church, where he loved to sing in the choir and serve as a Deacon.  Ricky’s love and enthusiasm when singing about his Savior was contagious.  He was afforded the pleasure of being the Music Director for several churches, which he enjoyed so much.  He also held positions as Youth Director and Adult Sunday School teacher.  He was a member of The Gideons International, serving with the Hall North Camp.

Born in Gainesville, Ricky was a graduate from North Hall High School.  He was truly a master of many things. By trade, he was a master moulder technician for years, but he was a cowboy at heart.  His love and devotion to horses inspired him to become a BWFA Certified Farrier.  The horses and his clients he served loved him for his kind and gentle spirit and his patience.  He enjoyed horseback riding, hunting, fishing, camping and anything outdoors.

Ricky is preceded in death by his father, William James Richard Stover.  He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Gwendolyn “Jeanine” Grindle Stover.  They were the love of each other’s lives and did everything together.  They have two children. Eric James Stover, wife Alison, precious grandson Charles “Charlie” James Stover, who knew him as “Papa”, and Tyler Monroe Stover, wife Anna Kaye.  He is also survived by his devoted Mother, Elizabeth Stover, and four siblings, Sheila (Wayne) Smith, Roger (Rena’) Stover, Nancy (Randy) Staton, and Paul (Vickie) Stover.  A host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.  Ricky will be sorely missed by all of us, but we know we will see him again.

Flowers are accepted, but those desiring to make monetary donations in Ricky’s memory may do so to The Gideons International (PO Box 2914, Gainesville, GA 30503) or to Last Stop Horse Rescue (PO Box 580, Gainesville, GA 30503; laststophorserescue.com).
