George Gary Bishop

Funeral services will be held Monday May 22, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at New Bridge Baptist Church for George Gary Bishop, 83, of Gainesville. Rev. Milton Harris and Dr. Bill Coates will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Bishop a lifelong resident and business owner passed away Saturday, May 20, 2017 after an extended illness.

Gary was a respected and valued contractor in the North Georgia area for over 60 years, exemplifying a level of construction of the highest quality. His integrity, honesty and ethic in the industry was foremost. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Hassie Faye Bishop, totally devoted to her happiness and joy. He was also preceded in death by his parents, George Earl and Sarah Francis (Taylor) Bishop and sister, Mrs. Lamar (Linda) Turner.

Mr. Bishop was of the Baptist faith and a member of New Bridge Baptist Church in Gainesville for over 60 years. Gary was born in Downey Hospital, attended Main Street School and was a 1953 graduate of Gainesville High School. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy and served his church as a Sunday School teacher for over 40 years along with other various positions.

He leaves behind his son, Gary T. Bishop and wife, Vicki; two grandchildren, Sarah Ember Bishop Bentley and husband, William of Macon; grandson, Gary Tyrone Bishop, Augusta; numerous nieces, nephews; sisters and brothers in laws

“Papa” as he was known by his grandchildren will be remembered for his unselfish devotion to their welfare and faithfulness in his support of family. He will be greatly missed for his honesty, laughter and wit. He is now with the love of his life for all of eternity.
