Linda Sheffield Smith

Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mrs. Linda Sheffield Smith, age 75 of Athens, Georgia who entered into rest Thursday, February 16, 2017.  Mrs. Smith was born in Donalsonville, Georgia a daughter of the late Joe M. and Audrey Philmon Sheffield.  Mrs. Smith was the former owner of Linda’s Beauty Boutique on the Atlanta Highway in Athens, was a retired Educator at Athens Tech with twenty five years of service where she received the Georgia Vocational Association Educator of the Year  Award in 1979. Mrs. Smith was a Graduate of the University of Georgia having obtained a Bachelors of Science in Education Degree in 1984.  Mrs. Smith received her Masters Degree from North Georgia College in 1995, and served on the Jackson County Department of Family and Children’s Services Board.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith is preceded by a grandson, Craig Lovin, and brothers, Jim Sheffield and Joe Sheffield, Jr..

Survivors include her husband, Thomas James Smith of Athens, son, Mark Smith and his wife Sherri of Athens.  Three daughters, Vicki Lovin and her husband Bruce of Greensboro, Donna Sorrells and her husband Don of Talmo, and Paula Loyd and her husband Steve of Darien.  Brother, Phil Sheffield and his wife Susan of Watkinsville, and sister, Rachael Bell and her husband Don of Lakeland, Florida. Also surviving are grandchildren, Ryan and Conor Smith, Cody Lovin, Dr. Katie Smith, Brantly Gee, Tre, Peyton and Meghan Sorrells, Hunter Loyd, Tori Coker and Petty Officer Zack Coker.  Two Great Grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 18, 2017 from Forest Heights Baptist Church, 1155 Oglethorpe Avenue, Athens, Georgia with Reverend Mike Purdy and Reverend Bruce Lovin officiating with burial to follow in the Attica Baptist Church Cemetery.  Mrs, Smith will lie in state in the Church, Noon until 2:00 P.M..  Gentlemen honored as pallbearers are Cody Lovin, Ryan Smith, Hunter Loyd, Trey Sorrells, Hunter Sheffield and Conor Smith.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, February 17, 2017, 6:00 – 8:00 P.M..  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Silver Leaf Assisted Living, 705 Whitehead Road, Athens, Georgia 30606.
