James 'Jim' William Peters

Obituary Date: Thursday, February 9, 2017

James 'Jim' William Peters, 82 of Destin, FL passed away Feb 9, 2017. Born 1935 in Parrottsville, TN, he was the son of late Rankin Peters and Eliza Thornburg Peters. 

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 7:00 pm in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home.  Reverend Earl Pirkle will officiate.  Interment is scheduled for Sunday, February 12, 2017 at 2:00 pm in Memorial Park Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 11, 2017 from 4 – 7 pm, prior to the service, at the funeral home.

He is survived by his wife, Sara Miller Peters; sister Nellie (Peters) Gregg and Bill Gregg, Parrottsville, TN; brother Dwaine and Carolyn Peters, Madisonville, TN; and brother Larry and Carolyn Peters, Kingsport, TN; nieces and nephews, Keith Gregg, Cliff and Lee Anne Briggs, Randall and Shannon Peters, Rob and Jill Reeves, Neal and Allison Peters, and Pam Peters. Great nieces and nephews, Shaun Gregg, Kyle Briggs, Andrew Briggs, Eli Briggs, Rachel Peters, Sam Peters, Hannah Reeves, Hadley Peters and Hampton Peters. 

Mr. Peters was an avid hunter and fisherman, competing in Bass Master fishing tournaments for several years. He was owner and operator of Gainesville Paint and Floor Covering in Gainesville, GA for many years. Spending his retirement years in Destin, FL, Mr. Peters was active in his community and served as President of Destin West Homeowners Association, and remained active with the association. He loved his family and was always present at all family gatherings. He fostered the importance of family down through the years with his nieces and nephews and then with his great nieces and nephews, teaching them that if you have your family then you have everything. All of his 'children' enjoyed being around their 'Uncle James.' Mr. Peters was a loving and very giving friend to everyone he knew and even to those he just met.
