Elizabeth McKenney Castleberry, age 93, of Sautee, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2017.
Mrs. Castleberry was a native of Albany, Georgia and was a graduate of Albany High School. She was a devout Methodist. She had been a member of Avalon United Methodist Church and later, Cordele First United Methodist Church. She sang in the church choir and was an active volunteer at both churches. After her husband’s death, she moved to Statesboro, Georgia, where she joined the Statesboro United Methodist Church where she was an active member. After she moved to Sautee, Georgia, she joined the Nacoochee United Methodist Church where she, again, was active in all phases of church work.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Freeman Castleberry; parents, Joseph Herschel McKenney and Mittie Middleton McKenney; brothers, John Benjamin McKenney and Herschel Ray McKenney. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include her daughter & son in law, Kay and Charles Brown of Sautee; sons and daughter in law, Raymond & Donna Castleberry of Dahlonega, and Mark Castleberry of Lexington, NC; 10 grandchildren, Todd Blackwell & wife, Sonia, Scott Blackwell & wife, Becky, Betsy Scarbrough & husband, Jimmy, Raymond Castleberry, Jr. & wife, Karen, Jennifer Castleberry, Alan Castleberry, Tip Castleberry, Chris Castleberry, Kevin Brown, and Sarah Brown; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Nacoochee United Methodist Church with Father Sam Buice officiating. A reception will follow the service in the fellowship hall of the church.
Burial will follow on Sunday, January 15, 2017, at 3 p.m. in Riverside Cemetery, Albany, Georgia, with Rev. Don Adams officiating at the graveside.
