Sybil Geraldine Higgins Johnston

Sybil Higgins Johnston, of Oakwood, was born on November 27, 1921 in Flat River, Missouri to Leo and Maude Dees Higgins.  She passed away after a period of declining health on January 1, 2017.

Sybil was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Maurice Johnston; her parents and siblings; her daughter-in-law, Alice Johnston; and her grandson, Daniel Johnston.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in law: Larry and Terri Johnston, Oakwood; Dean and Wendy Johnston, Warrenton, Virginia; and Ken and Sally Johnston, Gainesville; 14 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and her devoted caregiver, Celestine Winters.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Little and Davenport Funeral Home from 6 until 8 p.m.  Catholic Mass of Resurrection will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 10:45 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church.  Reverend Monsignor Jaime Barona will serve as celebrant.  Burial to follow at 2:30 p.m. at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
