Marie Thayer

Obituary Date: Friday, November 18, 2016

Marie A. Thayer of Oakwood GA passed away peacefully November 18, 2016 at age 92. She was born and raised in Orange County CA. Though actively pursued by UC Berkeley and several of the Armed Forces for her dietician/nursing studies, she chose to be wife and mother when she married Marine Sergeant James Thayer in 1951. Together they raised six children, moving several times throughout the country due to changing assignments.

After retiring, the couple traveled the country extensively in a motor home visiting old friends, family, and seeing the country. Afterward they settled in Florida and more recently the Gainesville GA area.

Although she enjoyed many activities, what Marie enjoyed most was simply visiting with family and friends. She was an active lifelong member of the Lutheran Church and participated in various volunteer activities well into her eighties.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years and two granddaughters. She is survived by 6 children, 9 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 600 South Enota Dr., NE Gainesville, GA 30501. A viewing will precede the funeral service from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the church.
