Virginia “Ginny” Faye Gilliam Greer

Mrs. Virginia “Ginny” Faye Gilliam Greer, age 95 passed away Monday, November 7, 2016 at her home.

A daughter of the late William Thomas and Beatrice Efird Gilliam, “Ginny” was born January 12, 1921 in Stanly County, North Carolina.  She was the oldest of five girls.  She attended nursing school at Watts Hospital in Durham, North Carolina after graduating from high school.  From there, she joined the US Navy in 1943 and worked at the Navy Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina.  While serving, she met and married Lovic P. Greer, Jr. who was an engineer at the Navy Yard, in the US Navy Chapel in Charleston.  They married December 5, 1944.  She and “Bub” moved to Toccoa in January, 1953 for the building and startup of Roselane’s Coats and Clark plant.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Toccoa.  She was preceded in death by her endearing husband, L.P. Greer, her son, William P. Greer and by two sisters, Lee Morris and Georgia Forte.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Al Chambers of Toccoa; three grandchildren and their spouses, Virginia Chambers of Nashville, Tennessee, Bradley and Caroline Chambers of Canton, Georgia and Wesley and Heather Chambers of Dahlonega, Georgia; six  great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ann Parker of Camden, South Carolina and Maxine Dismuke of Hartwell, Georgia.

Funeral services will be Friday, November 11, 2016, 11 O’clock AM in the First United Methodist Chapel with The Reverend Dr. John Brown and The Reverend Dr. Henry Fields officiating.  The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Brad Chambers, Wes Chambers, Jac Chambers, Billy Chism and Al Chambers.

The family will receive friends at the church in the Wesley,Curtis,Trogdon Room from 10 AM until the service time.  Online condolences can be made at www.acree-davisfh.com.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter, P.O. Box 2182, Toccoa, Georgia 30577, The Toccoa-Stephens County Library, 53 W. Savannah Street, Toccoa, Georgia 30577 or the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes, P.O. Box 1000, Stockbridge, Georgia 30281 in memory of Mrs. Virginia Greer.

Interment will follow in Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Virginia Gilliam Greer.
