Don E. “Boots” Clark

Obituary Date: Monday, October 24, 2016

Mr. Don E. “Boots” Clark, age 80, of Gainesville and Flowery Branch, passed away suddenly on Monday, October 24, 2016, at his residence.

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 28, 2016 in the Chapel of Memorial Park South Funeral Home with interment following at Memorial Park South Cemetery.  The Rev. Clyde Self and the Rev. Paul Wade will officiate.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Memorial Park South Funeral Home.

Mr. Clark, or “Boots” as he preferred, was born on February 17, 1936 to the late Don Nathan & Grace Pirkle Clark of Flowery Branch.  He was a member of Mt. Salem Baptist Church.  Upon leaving Flowery Branch High School, he served in the Army from 1954 – 1957 and was stationed in Germany during his active duty.

 

After receiving his honorable discharge from the Army, he worked at Chicopee Manufacturing for a short time and then began a successful career in the Trucking Industry, utilizing the skills he acquired in the Army.  He, subsequently, retired from ABF Freight Lines, having also worked for Overnight Transportation, Akers Motor Lines, and Pilot Freight Carriers.  Upon his retirement from trucking, he was employed by the Hall County School District for a number of years at Friendship Elementary and Davis Middle School.

 

A devoted Georgia Bulldog fan, Boots and Marty spent many afternoons at Sanford Stadium, cheering on their beloved Dawgs.  He was such a people-person and so well-loved by everyone that he will be greatly missed.

 

Boots was preceded in death by his parents; son, Marty Clark; brother, Larry Clark; and sisters, Blonnie Burke and Rose Holcomb.  He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joy Marlowe Clark; son, Wesley Clark; daughter, Debbie Clark, all of Gainesville; brother & sister-in-law, Ivan & Martha Clark of Cleveland; sister, Elizabeth Ramey of Dacula; sister-in-law, Hilda Clark of Flowery Branch; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
