Mabel W. Edwards, age 96, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 22, 2016.
She resided in Cornelia, GA. Mabel was born on February 11, 1920 in Cherokee County, GA. She was the daughter of the late W.O. and Gertrude Wilson. She had one brother, the late Jasper Thomas Wilson. She was a loving wife of sixty-one years to the late George Carl Edwards. She was preceded in death by her husband and daughter, Shirley Herrington. Mabel and George had five loving children. Bobby Edwards of Cornelia, GA, Debbie and Fred Stover of Buford, GA, James and Linda Edwards of Cornelia, GA, the late Shirley and Ralph Herrington of Gainesville, GA, and Annette Medvick of NJ. She loved her 3 pet birds, Charlie, Pete and Polly.
She was a loving matriarch to over 40 grandchildren, great grandchildren all the way to great-great-great grandchildren.
Mabel was a member of First Baptist Church of Cornelia. She was employed by Cassells 5 & 10 and later opened Fabricville in Cornelia GA. She also was a proud member of the Eastern Star. Mabel was an avid camper, enjoyed playing the piano and never missed her Braves or Falcons play a game.
She was a selfless giver who loved Jesus and will spend her eternity with Him. Mabel is best describe by the quote “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel with Dr. Eric Spivey officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 pm. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, October 24, 2016 at the funeral home.
