Lovic Pierce "Bub" Greer, Jr.

Mr. Lovic Pierce “Bub” Greer Jr. age 97 of 141 Greer Lane, Toccoa passed away Friday June 30, 2016 at his residence.
 
A son of the late Lovic Pierce and Eva Gibson Greer, he was born on August 30, 1918 in Valdosta, Georgia and lived there until 1935. He attended North Georgia College then appointed to the United States Naval Academy in 1937, having graduated from Georgia Tech where he received a B.S. in E.E. while co-oping with Westinghouse Electric Company, while at Georgia Tech he served as President of Tau Beta Pi; joined the Navy and assigned to the Post Graduate School, graduating in Naval Architecture in 1943. He served in Bath, Maine, Charleston, South Carolina and San Francisco, California and was discharged in 1946.    
 
After two years with Kendall Company as Plant Engineer, he was employed as Chief Engineer for J&P Coats for the southern plants; he was elected Vice President to Manufacturing Division in 1964. The highlight of his career was the design and construction of the 50,000 square feet finishing plant, later named the L.P. Greer Plant on Roselane in Toccoa.
 
“Bub” served as Mayor of Toccoa, President of GTMA (Georgia Textile Manufacturing Association) in 1971; appointed by Governor Busbee to the Georgia Ports Authority and served 8 years; was a trustee at Georgia Tech and served on the Stephens County Hospital Board and Tax Equalization Board. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and served on numerous committees. He was chairman of the building committee for the Toccoa-Stephens County Public Library. He was preceded in death by his son William Pierce Greer in 1979 and a sister Mary Nelson VanHorn.
 
Survivors include his wife Virginia Gilliam Greer of the home, a daughter and son-in-law Peggy and Al Chambers of Toccoa, three grandchildren Ginny Chambers of Nashville, Tennessee, Brad and Caroline Chambers of Canton, Georgia, Wes and Heather Chambers of Dahlonega and six great-grandchildren.
 
Funeral services will be held Sunday July 3, 2016 at First United Methodist Church at 2:30 P.M. with the Reverend Dr. John Brown and the Reverend Dr. Henry Fields officiating. The family will be at the home and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Sunday from 1 P.M. to 2 P.M.
 
Interment will follow in Stephens Memorial Gardens.
 
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers Billy Chism, Dick Simmons, Brad Chambers, Wes Chambers, Allan Ramsay, and Jerry Snell.
