Donald Kimbrell

Donald Kimbrell, age 76 of Mt. Airy, passed away Monday, May 23, 2016 at his residence following an extended illness.

Born in Habersham County, Georgia on October 24, 1939, he was a son of the late Masser and Lucy Mae Gulley Kimbrell.  Mr. Kimbrell was a retired electrician from Schnadig Corporation with 39 years employment. He was a member of Alto Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, choir director, and Sunday school teacher. He enjoyed fishing and handy man work.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Kimbrell was preceded in death by a son in law, Roy Lee Keller; brothers, Ray Kimbrell and Henley Kimbrell; sisters, Dorothy Mae Akins, Edna Faye Ward, and Bernice Little.

Surviving are his loving wife and best friend of 57 years, Shirley Kimbrell; son, Donald J. Kimbrell of Mt. Airy; daughter, Sue Keller of Mt. Airy; brother, Rev. Denver Kimbrell of Alto; 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm, Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Alto Baptist Church. Interment will follow at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 and 7-9 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
