Mr. Rodney Allen, age 69, of Hilton Head, SC formerly of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2016.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:30 pm Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Grace Episcopal Church 432 Washington Street Gainesville, GA 30501 with interment to follow at Alta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 pm Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel
Rodney was born on November 18, 1946 in Gainesville, GA to the late Fred Allen and Louise Allen. He was a graduate of South Hall High School and attended the University of Georgia and graduated from North Georgia College in 1972.
Rodney was a great family man, a loving husband, father, papa, and friend. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving as sergeant in the Military Police while serving in Korea. His passion was the beach. He enjoyed playing golf and was an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs. His family and friends will always remember him as being the ying to Nancy’s yang
Rodney is survived by his wife, who was the love of his life, Nancy Ramsbottom Allen of Hilton Head, SC and Gainesville, GA; His children, Taylor Gilmer and husband, Jeromie Gilmer of Gainesville; Dana Short of Gainesville; Skip Short and wife Mendy of Cumming; Tommy Allen of Gainesville; his seven grandchildren, Merritt and Addie Gilmer, Riley and Ali Short, Samantha and Hunter Short and Michael Allen.
In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to the Ronnie Green Heart Center at Northeast Georgia Medical Center 743 Spring Street Gainesville, GA 30501. With the dedication of Dr. Prad Tummala and care from the heart center, Nancy and Rodney were able to enjoy the last 13 wonderful years together of a 33 year marriage.
