Enid McKinley Hastings

Obituary Date: Thursday, February 11, 2016

Enid Eloise McKinley Hastings, 90, of Gainesville, Georgia, died at home surrounded by her family on February 11, 2016.

Mrs. Hastings was born in Vienna, Georgia, on January 30, 1926, to the late Carson Corley and Ruby Waters McKinley. She was preceded in death also by her sister, Juliette McKinley Winters of Atlanta. She often shared stories of her happy childhood in Vienna and was a graduate of the University of Georgia.

Mrs. Hastings and her husband Jack moved to Gainesville in 1950 and there they raised their family of five children. She was a member of First Baptist Church on Green Street for 65 years. As her children grew, she was a regular volunteer at their schools, at church, for their Girl Scout and Campfire troops and their various sports teams, and served as a substitute teacher for many years in the Gainesville City Schools. She was a wonderful cook, a talented seamstress, an accomplished hostess; and she had a knack for turning any ordinary occasion into a special event. Nothing made her happier than having all her family around her. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and is much loved by her family.

She is survived by her loving and beloved husband of 67 years, John Clifton Hastings, Jr. (Jack). They met as students at the University of Georgia in Athens and married on December 18, 1948. She is also survived by her children, Jill Hastings Goforth (Charles) of Gainesville, Carol Hastings Hoover (Chris) of Atlanta, Dr. Clifton Hastings (Donna), Elizabeth Hastings Wiley (Scott), and Mary Lina Hastings Pardue (Erik), all of Gainesville; by her grandchildren, Key Goforth of Gainesville, Preston Goforth of Atlanta, John Hastings (Ashton) and William Hastings (Jessica) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Sarah Hastings, Anna Pardue, and Morgan Pardue, all of Gainesville; and by her  great-granddaughter, Hadley Hastings, of Charlotte, and her niece, Juliana Winters of Atlanta.

The family will receive friends at Little and Davenport Funeral Home, 355 Dawsonville Highway, Gainesville, Georgia, on Saturday, February 13, 2016, from 2:00-4:00 PM and from 6:00-8:00 PM.

Mrs. Hastings will be honored and lovingly remembered at a memorial service to be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2016, at 3:00 PM, at First Baptist Church, 751 Green Street, Gainesville, Georgia.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 751 Green Street, Gainesville, GA 30501.
