Agnes Parks Cochran

Agnes Parks Cochran, of Gainesville, passed away on Saturday January 23, 2016.

Agnes was born in Austin, Texas on April 13, 1921, the oldest of eight children born to Clay B and Rachel Ingram Parks. She was 94 at her death. Most of her childhood years were spent in north Alabama near Anniston. She married John B. (J. B.) Cochran of Hall County on August 31, 1940. She worked at Chicopee Manufacturing Company during World War II from 1942 to 1945 during the years her husband was serving in North Africa and Europe. After her children reached adulthood, she was employed by Sewing Circle fabrics for several years then at Dundee Mills for twelve years. She loved working at her jobs as well as helping her husband with farming and gardening. She loved people and enjoyed embroidery and flowers. She was an avid African violet grower and loved sharing them. Her summers were spent gardening, canning and drying apples for her well known and much cherished fried apple pies. Agnes was a member of Corinth Baptist church where she served in many capacities during her decades of active membership.

Agnes is survived by her three daughters and their families: Margaret and Randall Clark, Auburn, Alabama and their son Matthew, Tega Cay, S.C.; Cathy and Terry  Slaton, Pendergrass, GA and their son Dustin, Gainesville, GA; Jane and Lance Chosewood, Atlanta and her daughters Tonya and Chris Wilkenloh, Atlanta, Kimberly and Bart Harkey, Winder, GA. Three great grandchildren Ramsey and Teagan Wilkenloh and Cameron Harkey.

Agnes is survived by three siblings: Ollie Otte of Burnsville, MN; Gerald “Bub” Parks and Sharon of Oxford, AL and Charles and Paulette Parks of Anniston, AL and one sister-in-law Debbie Parks Vines of Jasper, AL.

Agnes was preceded in death by her husband of almost 60 years, John B. Cochran, her parents, and four siblings, Alene Smith; Edna King, Gerri Naumann and Jimmy Parks and by four brothers in law, Edward Smith, Bob Smith, Marvin Otte and Eddie Naumann.

Visitation will be Monday January 25 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and from 1:00 to 2:00 pm Tuesday prior to the service.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday January 26 at 2:00 pm in the Little and Davenport Chapel with Rev. Lamar Holley officiating. Interment to follow in the Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery.   

 Flowers will be accepted, however those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Meals on Wheels program, 430 Prior St. Gainesville, 30501 or Murrayville Masonic Lodge, 5101 Cool Springs Rd. c/o S.C. Stowers, Gainesville, 30506.  Both which were dear to Agnes’s heart.
