John Russell Farmer

Obituary Date: Wednesday, January 13, 2016

Mr. John Russell Farmer, age 97 of 2755 Union Road, Gastonia, North Carolina passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Morningside Assisted Living in Gastonia, North Carolina.

 

A son of the late Jake and Lula Thomason Farmer, he was born October 17, 1918 in Stephens County, Georgia.  He was a World War II Army Veteran having served in Ardennes, Rhineland, Central Europe having received the EAMETO Medal.  He was employed with LeTourneau-Westinghouse Company for a number of years, for Akers Motor Lines for a number of years and later owned and operated his own Trucking business.  He was a member of the Gastonia First Baptist Church and was a member of the Gastonia Lions Club for some 50 years.  He was preceded in death by brothers, Marvin, Windell, Barney and Reid Farmer and by sisters, Minnie Ruth Bramlett, Doris Kimbrell, Eloise Love, Norma Lee Holcomb and Patsy Anderson.

 

At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife of 64 years, Ethel Smith Farmer who passed away January 15, 2016; other survivors, special friend and caregiver, Randy Bell and his wife Susan of Gastonia, North Carolina; nieces and nephews, Joy Farmer, Patricia Crumbley, Leon Kimbrell, Russell Love, Edward Love, Irene Chitwood, Sara Boyd, Carolyn Reynolds, Shirley Barnes and Sandra Cape.

 

Funeral services will be Sunday, January 17, 2016, 2 O’clock PM in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Jerrell Beatty and Mr. Randy Bell officiating.

 

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Saturday from 6 PM until 8 PM.

 

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers and should assemble at the funeral home by 1:30 PM, Randy Bell, John Farmer, Russell Love, Steve Tilley, Todd Crumbley and Jimmy Boyd.

 

Interment will be in the Stephens Memorial Gardens with Military Honors by the Georgia National Guard Honor Guard and the V.F.W. Post 4346.  Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mr. John Russell Farmer.
