Dr. John David Nolan

Obituary Date: Friday, December 4, 2015

Dr. John David Nolan, 84, of Cumming, GA, passed away December 4, 2015. John was born on October, 21, 1931, in Chicago, IL, to a devout Catholic family. Faith was an integral part of his life. He also had a love of learning and had degrees which included undergraduate degrees from Mount Caramel Seminary, St. Bonaventure’s University, a Masters in Physics from Notre Dame, and a Doctorate in Psychology from Harvard. John was a professor at Columbia University in NY and was a professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Georgia for 15 years.  After retiring from UGA, John and his beloved wife Joyce fulfilled their dream of retiring to Lake Tahoe, NV, where they enjoyed hiking, beautiful views, frequent visits from family and friends, and traveling. Their travel destinations included Hawaii, Alaska, Ireland, and a tour of Europe.

 

John is survived by Joyce Pershing Nolan, his wife of 47 years; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Terri; grandsons, Tyler and Trevor; sisters, Mary and Judy; and brothers, Jim and Joe.

 

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to his favorite charity, Adrian Dominican Sisters.

 

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 8th, from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming, GA. A funeral mass will be held at 12 noon on December 9th,  at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 3740 Holtzclaw Road, Cumming, GA.
