Jayne Staton Bryan

Obituary Date: Wednesday, November 11, 2015

Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mrs. Jayne Staton Bryan, age 82, of Jefferson, who passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2015.  Mrs. Bryan was born in Covington, Georgia, but grew up In Jefferson. She was the daughter of the late Frank C. and Nezzie Segars Staton. Mrs. Bryan earned a Bachelors Degree in Library Science from the University of Georgia and later worked as an elementary school teacher in Alabama and Tennessee.  She was a devoted wife and mother, a beloved Nana to her 5 grandchildren and a tireless volunteer and leader in her church and community.  She organized and began a kindergarten, a Girl Scout troop and numerous Sunday school classes and bible study groups.

Mrs. Bryan was a member of the Jefferson First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, serving as president of several chapters. She was currently a member of the Jefferson Women’s Club, the Esther Circle of the UMW and coordinated the card ministry and Meals on Wheels for many years.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Bryan is preceded in death by her brother Tom Staton, and a sister, Frances Staton. Survivors include her husband Harry W. Bryan of Jefferson, Georgia; daughter,  Beth Hyde (Chris) of Huntsville, Alabama; son Harry Bryan Jr. (Rena) of Hoschton, Georgia; son Joe Bryan (Amy) of Acworth, Georgia; sister, Marie Massey of Nicholson, Georgia. She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren; Rebecca Crawford (Jason), Malia Bryan, Nathan Bryan, Annalee and Lydia Hyde; as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Woodbine Cemetery in Jefferson, Georgia with Reverend Chris Lackey and Reverend Bob Reynolds officiating. Gentleman honored as pallbearers are Bob Herrin, Tom Elliott, Newton White, Wesley Wheeler, Michael White and Michael Kelly. The visitation for Mrs. Bryan will be held on Saturday morning, 9:00 am until 10:45 am, at Evans Funeral Home.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gentiva Hospice, 855 Gaines School Road, Athens, Georgia  30605, or to the American Cancer Society 1684 Barnett Shoals Road, Athens, Georgia  30605.
