Dewey H. Tench

Dewey H. Tench, age 88, of Cornelia, GA passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2015.

Mr. Tench was born in Cornelia, GA on December 2, 1926 to the late Hezekiah and Viola Ivie Tench. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, Cornelia Lodge #92 F. & A.M., was a veteran and served his country in the US Army during WWII. Mr. Tench was the retired owner-operator of 441 Tire and Alignment. He served as Habersham County Commissioner for 16 years; and was a founding member of the Habersham County Sheriff’s Posse where he continued with Habersham County Sheriff’s Reserve until retirement in 2012.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Tench was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Ivie Tench; brother, Dan Tench; and sister, Dorothy O’Neal.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Marcus and Lynn Tench of Demorest, Michael and Kathleen Tench of Demorest, Lowell and Brenda Tench of Cornelia; sisters, Doris Stamey of Demorest and Braselton, and Helen  McGaha of Cornelia; brothers, Douglas Tench of Chamblee, Donald Tench  and Hoyt Tench, both of Cornelia; grandchildren, Allison Becker, Austin Tench, William Tench, Meryl Tench, and Elizabeth Tench; and three great-grandchildren, and his care-giver, Jeanette Burch.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 3, 2015 in Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel in Demorest with Rev. Chris York officiating. Interment will follow in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Rabun County DAV Post #15, the Grant-Reeves V.F.W. Post 7720, and the American Legion Post # 84.

The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00, Monday, November 2, 2015 at the funeral home.
