Mary Elizabeth Bertone

Mary Elizabeth Bertone, age 101 of Cleveland passed away on Friday, October 23, 2015.
                Mary Elizabeth (DeVito) Bertone is the daughter of Italian immigrants Dominick and Teresa (Abramo) DeVito. Dominick was born in 1880 in Vallo Della Lucania, Italy and Teresa was born in 1882 in San Rafo, Italy. They met in 1908 after immigrating to New York City and were married in 1910. They raised a family of seven girls and two boys. Mary was born on January,11 1914, was the second oldest daughter, and was the sole surviving of the DeVito family. Mary left school after the 8th grade to help support her family. She worked as a seamstress.
            Mary met Louis Bertone Sr., fell in love and were married in 1934. Their first child, Deloris, was born in 1938 and their second child, Louis Jr., was born in 1943. They lived in Yonkers, New York and raised their family until her husband Louis, a house painter, retired and they moved to Lake Worth, Florida. Her husband Louis died in 2005 at age 93. She remained in Florida until moving in with her son Louis and daughter-in-law Monika in 2013. Mary was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Cleveland, GA and enjoyed going to the White County Senior Center where she loved to line dance. She also loved to play Bingo at the American Legion in Cleveland, play cards, and could beat you in a game of Rummikub.
            Mary was preceded in death by her parents Dominick and Teresa (Abramo) DeVito, husband Louis Bertone Sr. and one grandson Thomas Bertone, II. She is survived by her daughter Dolores Bertone Clarizio and son-in-law Luke Clarizio of Lyndhurst, NJ and son Lois Bertone, Jr. and daughter-in-law Monika Bertone residing in Cleveland, GA. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
            A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church on October 24, 2015 at 10:00am.
