Michael Richard McNabb

Obituary Date: Sunday, July 26, 2015

Michael Richard McNabb, 67, died Sunday, July 26, 2015 at 4:00 am at his home in Gainesville, Georgia, following an extensive battle with cancer due to exposure to Agent Orange during the Vietnam War.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel. Reverend Bill Grubbs will officiate. Interment will follow at Sugar Hill Baptist Church Cemetery on Athens Highway with military honors. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday, July 31, 2015.
He was born on September 10, 1947 in Compton, California and moved to Gainesville at the age of 6 years old. After returning home from Vietnam he found the love of his life, Debby Patton McNabb, and they were married four months later.
Mike was an avid Harley rider, hot rod enthusiast and renowned fishing pro. He was well-known by all as the “alpha” fisherman and known to tell only a few “Big Fish” stories in his life. His life and career revolved around his love for the art of building. He was known by his colleagues and customers for his attention to detail in all building projects, personalization and his kind and caring attitude. When Mike got an idea to build something at home, he always brought in the “big boards” in an attempt to have it last a lifetime, including the building of his family home. He was of the Baptist Faith and loved the Lord. He was a member of the Gainesville VFW and the Gainesville Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 772. Later in his life he worked in Iraq for the Department of Defense. He was fondly referred to as a true Patriot and one of the last “Good Guys”. He will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Debby Patton McNabb of Gainesville; daughter, Danielle McNabb Roberts and son-in-law, Steve Roberts of Gainesville; and sons, Michael Jason McNabb and Jesse Dillon McNabb of Gainesville; he was also blessed with twin daughters: Michelle McNabb and boyfriend Reggie Bell of Gainesville; and Latrelle McNabb Holcombe and husband Mark Holcombe of Gainesville; brother, Jimmy Wayne McNabb of Gainesville; sister, Deana Baum of Gainesville; grandchildren, Kiser Roberts, Lillian Roberts, Chase Holcombe, Callie Tanner; and great-grandson, Kolson Waters. He is preceded in death by his Parents: Truman and Frances McNabb and brother, David Lee McNabb.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to VFW Post 0772 Vietnam Veterans of America.
