Eugene Summerour

Obituary Date: Sunday, January 18, 2015

Eugene Summerour was born November 9, 1936 to the late Ruth Niles and the late Isaac Stanford Summerour. He departed this life January 18, 2015 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.

Eugene was born and raised in Gainesville and attended Northwestern and Fair Street School where he played on the football team. Eugene gave his life to Jesus Christ at an early age, and later joined in fellowship with the Greater Timber Ridge Baptist Church where he served on the Usher Board.

As an adventurous young man Eugene served in the Korean War. He loved reminiscing about his time served in the Army, his talented moves on the football field and his deep sea fishing expedition. Eugene was a master conversationalist who loved to commentate the football, basketball and baseball games from his favorite recliner. His favorite pastime was spending quality time with his family and spoiling the grandchildren. "Papa" as he was affectionately known by all, had a favorite saying among the family: "You got to pay the cost to be the BOSS" and on January 18 he paid the cost.


Eugene was preceded in death by his two sons, Jarvis Summerour and Master Anthony Eugene Summerour. He was the proud father of six girls and six boys. He leaves to mourn his precious memories his loving wife Mrs. Willene Summerour of Gainesville. Mrs. Janice Harris and Mr. Daryl (Annett) Bland both of (Eatonton, Ga), Rev. Dianne (Curtis) Haynes, Sr (Lawrenceville, Ga.), Mrs. Vickie (Rev. Russell) Smith, Mrs. Dorothy ( Kenneth) Bolden, Mr. John (Kim ) Rucker, Ms. Regina Summerour, Mrs. Lisa (Herbert ) Mize, Mr. Timothy (Sonya) Rucker, Mr. Fabian (Connie) Rucker all of Gainesville, Georgia; two brothers James (Betty) Summerour of Gainesville and Robert (Janie) Summerour of Milwaukee; two brother in laws Claude Hemphill, James (Michelle) Hemphill, Sister in law, Viola Childers;Thirty-one grandchildren and forty-two great-grandchildren; confidant and partner in crime Lucky; and a host of friends and relatives.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 1pm at Greater Timber Ridge Baptist Church. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 23, 2015 from 7-8pm at Greater Timber Ridge Baptist Church. Professional Services Entrusted to Wimberly & Jackson Funeral Home.
