Abbie Virginia Lathem

Abbie Virginia Lathem, age 90, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2015 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Commerce, Ga. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Airline Baptist Church.



Abbie was born in Blue Springs, Alabama on October 17, 1924 to the late Albert and Donie Weston Walker.



She had worked in the family business, L and R Farms, as a part-time secretary and bookkeeper. Her favorite part of the job was visiting with local customers who purchased fresh eggs for their families.



Abbie was a very giving and loving mother and grandmother. She delighted in keeping her grandchildren and showering them with love and affection.



Abbie suffered from a car accident 20 years ago which greatly impacted her independence and ability to communicate with others. She was cared for lovingly by her late husband Bob and continued to enjoy visits from family and friends.



In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Robert James "Bob" Lathem, Sr., her son Robert James "Jimmy" Lathem, Jr. and 10 brothers and sisters.



Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, David and Lisa Lathem of Maysville, grandchildren, Evan and Kelly Lathem of Gainesville, Brent and Anne Marie Braham of Gainesville, Charlie and Sara Walls of Nashville, TN, Jenny Lathem of Charleston, SC., Tyler Lathem of Athens, and Andrew Lathem of Maysville, four great-grandchildren, Miller and Abigail Lathem, Ridge and Lucy James Braham, brother and sister-in-law, G.C. and Mary Walker of Macon, brother, Darrell Walker of Montgomery, AL. and a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 from 5-7 pm at Little & Davenport Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 22, 2015 in the Chapel of Little and Davenport Funeral Home. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
