Betty Jane (Hicks) Moore

Obituary Date: Saturday, January 10, 2015

Betty Jane (Hicks) Moore, 88, of Cumming, GA died on January 10, 2015. Born in Oshkosh, WI she was the daughter of the late Altamine and Donald Hicks. Her first husband, Dr. William S. Compton, Sr. and son, William "Billy" Compton, Jr. predeceased her. She married Dan Moore September 14, 1963.

Betty moved to Atlanta when she was nine and graduated from Girls High. She worked at Rich's for 5 years as a secretary and loved her job. After, she married Bill, along with being a homemaker and mother, she held a number of secretarial positions and was the office nurse and receptionist at his office. Later, she worked as secretary at Dan's consulting practice.

Betty was a student of the Bible and member of Christ the King Lutheran Church. She was also an ardent fan of the movie, Gone with the Wind. She attended the opening and the 25th anniversary. Betty was able to quote most of the lines from heart.

She is survived by her husband, Dan Moore of Cumming, GA; children, Cathryn Compton-Strozier and son-in-law, Dr. Charles B. Strozier of Brooklyn, NY, Donny Moore of Cumming, GA, Dani Bentle and son-in-law, Doug Bentle of Marietta, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Gene Dunn of Hilton Head, SC; grandchildren, Jordan Bentle of Denver, CO, Alex Bentle of Marietta, GA, Amy and Dallas Anthony of Woodstock, GA, Christopher Strozier of Annapolis, MD, Michael Strozier, Matthew Strozier, Alison Strozier of Philadelphia, PA, and Shola Olatoye of New York City; and great-grandchildren, Gabriel Anthony of Woodstock, GA, Alexander and Rowan Strozier of New York City, NY, Carolyn and Jay Strozier of Annapolis, MD and Trevor Velez of Washington, DC; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life and Resurrection service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at Christ the King Lutheran Church. Pastor Erik Allen will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Betty's name to Christ the King Building Fund.
