Born on March 5, 1921, to Edward and Josephine Harris in Augusta, Ga., Ann Gignilliat graduated from the University of Georgia and taught school before marrying William R. Gignilliat Jr. in 1942 and moving to Gainesville, Ga., in 1950 where they raised three sons, William R. Gignilliat III, Edward Harris Gignilliat and Charles Olmsted Gignilliat.

Her devoted husband, Bill; and beloved son, Ned, predeceased her.

She is survived by two sons and their wives, Laura Lieberman and Brenda Gignilliat; seven loving grandchildren and their spouses and fiancés, Meigan and Seth Herold, Heyward Gignilliat and Caroline Roth, Harris and Carla Gignilliat, Darrell Gignilliat and Leslie Jones, Stuart and Kasey Gignilliat, William R. Gignilliat IV, and Shaylin Duncan, and Elizabeth Ann Gignilliat and Josh Ullom; and five great-grandchildren, Taylor and Kady Herold, Hudson Gignilliat, Smith Gignilliat; and her new namesake, Josephine Ann Gignilliat, who joined the family on Oct. 6, 2014; two stepgrandsons and their wives, Kevin and Tammy Peavy, Matthew and Tiffany Reynolds; four step-great-granddaughters, Maelie Peavy, and Cloe, Ella and Jocelyn Reynolds; and nieces and nephews including her godchild, Patricia Ann Cockrill.

A fine cook, accomplished homemaker and stylish hostess, Ann Gignilliat was devoted to her husband and family, delighting in family occasions, enjoying travel with her husband and savoring the roses he cultivated in his garden for her. She was a member of the Altar Guild of Grace Episcopal Church in Gainesville and active in local bridge and garden clubs.

In lieu of flowers, a contribution in her name to Grace Episcopal Church, Episcopal Relief and Development, or the charity of your choice is suggested. A memorial service is planned by the family for Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014, at 3 p.m. in Grace Episcopal Church.
