Obituary Date: Saturday, August 23, 2014
Gustavus Adolphus Puryear III, 72, of Sautee, Georgia, died August 23, 2014, in Gainesville, Georgia, of complications from an unexpected stroke.

Gus was born July 17, 1942, in Nashville, Tennessee, where he attended Woodmont Elementary School and then Battle Ground Academy, from which he graduated in 1960. He graduated in 1965 from Centre College, Danville, Kentucky, where he especially enjoyed his days as a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

He began his career as a management trainee at Citizens & Southern Bank in Atlanta, but left after a few years to pursue a variety of positions engaged in the marketing of computers and computer services in Atlanta. A lifelong enthusiast of both Corvette automobiles and boating, he was active at the time of his death with the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He and wife Peggy dearly loved their dachshunds and one Yorkshire terrier and tremendously enjoyed their travels around the world and across the country.

Gus was preceded in death by his parents, Gustavus Adolphus Puryear, Jr. and Ruth Burr Puryear of Nashville. He is survived by his wife, Peggy L. Puryear, his son, Gustavus Adolphus Puryear IV (Jennifer) of Nashville, and his grandchildren Ruth Louise Puryear and Mary Brisson Puryear, also of Nashville. Also grieving his loss are Billy and Lisa Lee (son and daughter-in-law of Peggy L. Puryear), of Springfield, Virginia, and Tracey, Rocky and Will Ward (daughter, son-in-law, and grandson of Peggy L. Puryear), of Flowery Branch, Georgia. Donations in his memory should be sent to the National Corvette Museum.

The family will receive friends Monday August 25, 2014 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Little & Davenport Funeral Home.
