Jim led his team of professionals at Siemens with energy and integrity, earning the nickname of "The Mayor ", and receiving one of the highest peer ratings among Siemens employees. As a coach of several youth sports teams, Jim invested countless hours in young people, as evidenced by the outpouring of support received from many of those Jim coached and mentored.

Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Connie Jean Kahler, grandparents Lynn and Mary Crane, and Ted and Lily Mae Kahler. Survived and will be sorely missed by his best friend and wife of nearly 24 years, Debbie McMillan Kahler; son, Austin, 21; daughter Abby, 18; Father, Noble Gene Kahler; Mother and Step-father, Bette Gene and Ray Pendleton; sister, "Aunt Terrie" Kahler; brother, Timmy Kahler; Father-in-law and Mother-in-law Richard and Glenda McMillan; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
