Marion Mays Easterday

Obituary Date: Monday, April 21, 2014

Francis Marion Mays Easterday of Gainesville passed away on April 21, 2014, surrounded by her family.

Born in Anderson, South Carolina on July 27, 1942, to Arthur Robert and Francis Marion Mays she spent her early years in the Morningside area of Atlanta where she graduated from Grady High School. She attended Queens College for Women in Charlotte, North Carolina and graduated "With Highest Honors" in 1964. Some years later she obtained a second degree in a joint Georgia State/Emory program in Medical Technology, again graduating "With Highest Honors". In 1986, she formed her own company "SunBelt Scientific, Inc.", which served as Manufacturer's Representative for some of the largest Medical and Biological research equipment manufacturers in the world.

Marion spent her adult life studying and traveling in search of knowledge, purely for the sake of knowing and she had an incredible knowledge of History, particularly Russian History, Philosophy, Art and Religion. In recent years her main interests have been the Brenau University Leisure Learning Institute program and the Friendship Class at Gainesville First United Methodist Church.

Marion is survived by; her husband James C. Easterday of Gainesville and two sons; Robert Mays Easterday and wife Toni of Powder Springs, Ga., James Kent Easterday and wife Tami of Gainesville; a sister Louise Roper Mays of Augusta, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Tanner Grant Easterday, Dylan Mays Easterday, Carleigh Easterday, Luke Easterday, Anna Catherine Harris, Durham Harris, and Jonathan Harris. She loved them all dearly.

Services conducted by Dr. Bill Coates and Rev. Paul Hannah will be held at First Baptist Church of Gainesville, on Thursday April 24, 2014, beginning with Columbarium service at 9:30 a.m. at the church's Columbarium site followed by a Memorial service at 10:00 a.m. in the church Chapel. Visitation with the family in the Church parlor will follow the service.

The family request the in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be sent to any of the following of her favorite charities-Good News Clinics of Gainesville, Georgia, The Elizabeth Hancock Scholarship Fund at Brenau University or the Hall County Animal Shelter.
