John Carl 'J.C.' Couch

Obituary Date: Sunday, August 11, 2013

Mr. John Carl "J.C." Couch, age 88, of Murrayville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Wahoo Baptist Church with interment to follow in Wahoo Baptist Church Cemetery. The Reverend Charles Buice, Reverend Mitch Buice and Reverend Mark Stroud will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm Tuesday, August, 13, 2013 at the funeral home.

A devoted family man, his true joy in life was being surrounded by his loved ones and keeping them entertained with his colorful tales of the good ole days, which never failed to bring laughter time after time.

He was an avid outdoorsman and tiller of the soil. He was happiest when he was seated on his 8N Ford Tractor. He loved to share the bounty of his garden with friends and neighbors including his famous Moon and Stars Watermelons. His favorite pastimes included breakfast with friends and the staff at Rabbittown Café and spending time with his best friend and "co-inventor" Leon White.

He attended Wahoo Baptist Church, where he had been a member for 74 years. He retired in 1986 from the Georgia DOT with more than two decades of devoted service.

Mr. Couch was born on May 21, 1925 in Lumpkin County to the late Alf and Amie Couch. He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Frances Couch and brother, Hoyt Couch. Mr. Couch is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and the Rev. Charles Buice and Cathy and Alan Sargent; grandchildren, Jason and Andrea Buice, Mitch and Alisha Buice, Amanda Payne and Katie Martin; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Carly Buice, Brooklyn Patterson, Parker Payne and Mason Buice; sister, Ruby Grindle and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was a man of few words, yet when he spoke he spoke to the hearts of those who loved him. He was humble and kind; a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He is now in the presence of his savior and beloved wife, but he will live in our hearts forever.

Flowers will be accepted but for those who desire donations may be made to the Wahoo Baptist Church Cemetery Fund c/o Cheryl Park 5874 Mt. Vernon Road Murrayville, GA 30564.
