Hans Otto Schaefer

Mr. Hans Otto Schaefer, 86, of Murrayville, GA. passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 following a lengthy battle with cancer surrounded by his family.



Born in Kirchberg, Germany on March 3, 1927 he was the son of the late Hermann and Marta Schaefer. In 1957 Hans came to America to experience the American Dream. Once in America Hans owned a deli in New York City. He then moved to Miami and owned a restaurant. In the early 1980's he move to Georgia and eventually to Murrayville where he enjoyed his favorite craft which was woodworking. Hans built his own homes that he has lived in and in addition to that he was a master craftsman making shoes, specialty trims and other art.



In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Tony Schaefer.
Hans is survived by his wife of 20 years, Joy Fauscett Schaefer of Murrayville, sisters, Grete Wolf and Lotte Bauer of Germany; brother, Karl Schaefer of Germany; many nieces and nephews; stepchildren and spouses, Angela and Scott Pelletier of MN; Brenda and Glenn Canada of Gainesville, William Fauscett of Gainesville; step grandchildren, Chris Canada and Lauren Pelletier and our extended family, James and Irena Caf Smith of NC.



A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2013 in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home. Rev. James Sneed will officiate. A time of visitation with the family will be from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.



In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, 2150 Limestone Parkway, Suite 222 Gainesville, GA 30501.



The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center for the kind and caring compassion they have shown to their family. A special thank you to Dr. John Range for his superb care.
