Rev. William 'Bill" Kirkland, III

The Rev. William "Bill" Kirkland III, 86 of Dahlonega passed away May 22, 2013 at Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth, Ga after an extended illness of many years.

He was born in Quitman, Mississippi to the late William and Eva Bonney Kirkland.

He is survived by his wife, Susanne Clark Kirkland of Dahlonega; son Felix Kirkland and wife Diane of Atlanta; daughter Antonia "Tony" Reed and husband Ray of Clarkesville, Ga; stepson Brooks Clark and wife Rachel of Johns Creek, Ga; step daughter Tracey Clark Ragland and Tim Ragland of Dahlonega; grandchildren Dr. Bonney Reed-Knight and husband Paul, and Ian Kirland, all of Atlanta. Emily Reed Underwood and husband "Bo" and Jessica Clark, all of Athens. Collin Clark and Julia Clark of Johns Creek, Ga Christy Smith Wallace and great grandson Robbie Smith of Jacksonville, NC; niece Vicky Alexander and husband Minter of Alexandria,VA; cousin Jo Kelly Edwards and husband Richard of Birmingham, AL as well as many other cousins and relatives.

Bill was an Eagle Scout. He served as a medic in the Navy during WWII and was a lieutenant in Pentagon during the Korean War.

He graduated from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and was a Teal Estate broker and developer in Atlanta and Dahlonega. In 1995 he was ordained as a Deacon of the Episcopal Church. His ministry was in Kairos Prison Ministry and working in the mental health community of northeast Georgia. He served the congregations of St. Clare's Episcopal Church, Blairsville; Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Sautee-Nachoochee and after his retirement was associated with Saint Elizabeth Episcopal Church in Dahlonega.

Bill was preceded in death by his first wife Nell Felix Kirkland and infant son Kershaw Kirkland.

His memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 1, at 3pm at St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church on Hamp Mill Road, Dahlonega, Ga. Family will receive friendsat 2pm prior to the service.
