Charles E. Nunnally

Obituary Date: Tuesday, April 23, 2013

Charles E. Nunnally, 83, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his home on April 23, 2013.

A memorial service will be held for Mr. Nunnally on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the New Hope United Methodist Church, 4815 Dawsonville Highway, Gainesville, Georgia. Following the service, his dear friends and neighbors will hold a celebration of his life and spirit at 4:00 in the culdesac on Nunnally Trail, Gainesville, Georgia.

Charles was born in Helena, Alabama on September 29, 1929, where he was the 4th of 6 children of Grace and Luther Nunnally. He was a member of the Helena Methodist Church in Helena, Alabama, and graduated from Thompson High School in 1947. He served his country in the US Army's 24th Infantry during the Korean conflict from December of 1950 to September of 1952, graduated from Mississippi State University in 1958 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and was employee of Plantation Pipeline Company for almost 30 years. Charles moved to his home on Lake Lanier in 1959 as the lake was still filling, and had a profound influence on the shaping of the community he loved so much. He was known to his family, friends, and neighbors as a sage of wisdom and fountain of knowledge that always had time to help a friend in need. For Charles, no challenge was too great to conquer, no favor too big to ask, and no occasion too small to celebrate.

Charles is survived by his long term companion, Pauline Hughes; brother, Robert Nunnally; sister, Carol Black; only son, Tracy Nunnally; daughter-in-law, Gabrielle Nunnally; grandson, Alexander Nunnally; step-grandchildren, Robert and Sara Schlotta; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Luther H. Nunnally, Sr. and Grace Nunnally; his brother, Luther H. Nunnally, Jr.; and his sisters Eunice Casey and Janelle N. Bingham.
