Michael Alan Riley

Obituary Date: Tuesday, January 29, 2013

Michael Alan Riley, age 65 of Shady Valley Road, Gainesville, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at his residence following an extended illness.


Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, February 1, 2013 at 2:00 PM at New Holland Baptist Church with Reverend Terry Crawford officiating. Interment will follow in Springway Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 31, 2013 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home.


Mr. Riley was born September 18, 1947 in Gainesville, GA to the late James Robert and Floye Wilson Riley, where he lived in New Holland most of his life. He was a graduate of East Hall High School, Class of 1965. He served in the United States Air Force for 6 years where he served in Vietnam. He graduated from Truett McConnell College with an Associates Degree and attended the University of Georgia. He was a deacon of New Holland Baptist Church where he was a member. Mr. Riley took pride in teaching Sunday School at the assisted living Summer's Landing for elderly people until his illness. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan.


Mr. Riley is survived by his wife of 44 years, Donna Riley of Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law, Christina and Robert Carr of Warren, OH; daughter and son-in-law, Amanda Riley Scott and husband Ronald Scott of Gainesville; son and fiancé, Chadwick Riley and Jessica Garlit of Demorest, grandchildren, Riley Elizabeth White, Bobby Carr, Emma Carr, Emmalyn Garlit, Natalie Garlit and JayVaughn Garlit.
