Gladys Westbrook Knox

Mrs. Gladys Westbrook Knox of Buford, Georgia, died Thursday, October 25, 2012, a member of a prominent pioneer family in Buford, GA born December 26, 1910 in Buford.

Mrs. Knox was predeceased by her husband, John W. Knox; her parents, William and Laura Black Westbrook; five sisters, Willi Jo Cheeley, Clara Bess Pass, Bronnie Funderburg, Johnnie Attaway and Annis McCorkle; and three brothers, Cliff Sears, Fred Sears and Cecil Westbrook. She is survived by nephews and nieces.

She graduated from Buford High School, Valedictorian of her class as well as receiving top honors from the University of Georgia. She was elected a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Mrs. Knox retired from her teaching career in Buford, Warner Robins and Decatur, Georgia. She also taught and retired from the David Miller High School in Asheville, NC. She was always delighted to have former students remember her, years after retirement. Mrs. Knox was the oldest member of the Buford First United Methodist Church.

A visitation will be Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Flanigan Funeral Home and the Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home, Buford, Georgia, with Reverend Dr. Sondra R. Jones officiating. Mrs. Knox's nephew, Judge Joseph E. Cheeley, Jr., will give the eulogy. Private interment will follow in the Duluth, Georgia City Cemetery along side of her husband.
