Mary Gladys (Rice) Jarvis

Mrs. Mary Gladys (Rice) Jarvis, age 98 of Royston, Georgia went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 08, 2012, surrounded by her loving family at the home of her son, following a brief illness.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel with interment to follow at Gordon Interdenominational Church Cemetery in Royston, GA. The Reverend Don Underwood will officiate. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 pm Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at the funeral home. Mrs. Jarvis' remains will lie in state at the church 2:00 to 2:30 pm with graveside service to follow in the church cemetery.

She was born March 10, 1914 in Royston, Georgia and was the daughter of the late William Harrison Rice and Bernice Phillips Rice. She grew up in Franklin County in the Sandy Cross and Cromers Mill Communities. She married George L. Jarvis, Sr. on April 6, 1934. Her husband assisted with the rebuilding of Gainesville after the tornado of 1936; then, they moved from Franklin County to the Atlanta area where they lived until 1980. She then returned to Franklin County to care for her aging parents. In 2000 she moved to Clermont, GA to live with her son, George, where she remained until her death.

Mary was a precious and Godly lady who loved Christ, her family and friends. She was a blessing and inspiration to everyone she met. Her message to us was love each other, forgive and above all have a close relationship with Christ. She devoted her life to the welfare, health and happiness of her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George L. Jarvis, Sr.; son, Selden Rice Jarvis, sister, Willie Ruth Rice Phillips, mother-in-law, Mildred Carey Jarvis and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Jarvis Veal.,br>
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, George L. Jarvis, Jr. and Marcia of Clermont, GA; Charles Wesley Jarvis and Valerie of Lithonia, GA; Joel Harrison Jarvis and Mia of Lawrenceville, GA; Robert Craig Jarvis and Debbie of Grayson, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Geraldine Jarvis Ledford and Louis of Conyers, GA; grandsons and spouses, Trey and Natalie Jarvis; Matt and Dawn Jarvis, Brian and Ellen Jarvis; Tommy and Kerri Daniel; granddaughters and spouses, Jennifer and Russ Chamblee, Kellie and Rob Divis, and Kathy and Matt Stancil; 13 great-grandchildren and a number of family, nieces and nephews also survive.
