Barry T. Edington

Obituary Date: Monday, August 27, 2012

The last alarm sounded for Deputy Chief Barry T. Edington, Dekalb Fire Services (Ret) on August 27, 2012.

Born on July 8, 1942 in Miami, Florida, he was the son of the late Theodore and Grace Weinheimer Edington. He was predeceased by a son, Jeffrey Edington and his adoptive mother, Pauline Edington.

Chief Edington is survived by his wife, Rebecca (Becky) Edington; step-daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Sam Khair of Jefferson; step-son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Jackie Corley of Buford; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Dan Ricketts of Galveston, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Jane Edington of Indianapolis, Indiana. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Ansley Briggs, Tanner Corley, Layne Corley, Sarah Corley and Hannah Corley.

Chief Edington spent four years active duty in the United States Air Force and 26 years in the Georgia Air National Guard. He retired with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.

Chief Edington was a poultry producer with Wayne Farms for 24 years. He was instrumental in initiating the Georgia Contract Poultry Growers Association. Barry was a member of Holly Springs United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be at 11 AM, Wednesday, August 29 at Holly Springs UMC with Rev. Jerry Cameron and Rev. Tom Fish officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday, August 28.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Jackson County Humane Society, P.O. Box 567, Jefferson, GA 30549 in memory of Barry Edington.
