Vernon Dee Jones

Obituary Date: Saturday, March 3, 2012
Vernon Dee Jones, 83, of Cumming, GA died at Northside Hospital Forsyth on March 3, 2012 after a long battle with several health issues. He was a fighter to the end. Born in Birmingham, AL he was the son of the late D.T. "Doc" and Lois Jones. His sisters, Connie Maus and Meda Slay also predeceased him.

Vernon served as an aerial photographer in the Navy during WWII. He retired from Campbell Soup Company and served as an avid volunteer at Northside Hospital Forsyth since its opening.

Vernon was a friend to all, stranger to none. He appreciated more than anything doing for others. He was famous for his "rum cake" and will be remembered by all who knew him as a good person who would do anything and everything he could to help others. He was loved by all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Annie "Laura" Jones of Cumming, GA; brother, Lionel Jones of Birmingham, AL; daughters, Donna (Gary) Skogsbergh of Ocala, FL, Darlene (Bob) Marionneaux of Cumming, GA and Dianne Jones of Smyrna, GA; grandchildren, Christen (Marc) Steele of DePere, WI, Ashleigh Hall of Green Bay, WI and Eric and Ryan Marionneaux of Cumming, GA; great-grandchildren, Ava, Maya and Chandler Steele of DePere, WI; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 in the chapel of McDonald and Son. Interment will follow at 12:00 pm (CST) on Friday, March 9 at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, AL. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 6 from 5:00
