Col Milbourne L. Joye

Obituary Date: Saturday, December 24, 2011
Col Milbourne L. Joye, (USAR-Ret), age 90, of Gainesville, Georgia and formerly of Buford, Georgia, passed away Saturday, December 24, 2011 at Lanier Village Estates.

A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, January 6, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel at Lanier Village Estates with internment following the service at Memorial Park Cemetery where Col Joye will receive full military honors.

Col Joye was born in West Columbia, South Carolina on July 12, 1921 and was the son of the late Charles Duncan Joye and Willie Marie Joye. He graduated from the University of South Carolina and retired as the Chief of Pharmacy at the VA Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

Col Joye's 31 year military career included service in World War II as a Navy corpsman attached to the 6th Marine Division during the Battle of Okinawa and with the U.S. Army 2nd Armored Division during the Korean Conflict. He then retired as a Colonel after 24 years with the 818 Hospital Corps at Ft Gillam, Georgia.

Milbourne was a member of the First Buford United Methodist Church in Buford, Georgia and was an avid fisherman and accomplished violinist. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Peeler Joye, his daughter, Amanda Haney, and his grandson, Tripp Joye. He is survived by his son, Bourne Joye, of Georgetown, SC, his daughter, Laurie Joye of Lexington, SC, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
