Phyllis Beatrice Brook Backes

Funeral services for Phyllis Beatrice Brook Backes, age 97, of Clarkesville will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 15, 2011 from the Hillside Memorial Chapel. Rev. Billy Burrell and Hector Orsini will officiate with interment to follow in the Yonah Memorial Gardens, Demorest, Georgia.

Mrs. Backes died Friday, November 11, 2011 at her residence.

Born on December 4, 1913 in Coventry, Connecticut, Mrs. Backes was the daughter of the late Robert G. and Caroline Rousseau Brook. A homemaker, Mrs. Backes raised her family in New Haven and Old Saybrook, Connecticut She worked for 20 years in Chesebrough Ponds, Inc where it was headquartered in Clinton, Connecticut. Mrs. Backes retired to Ocala, Florida and later to Clarkesville, Georgia. She loved dancing, playing the piano, reading, gardening and taking care of her beautiful yard and home, long walks, board games and puzzles, lively conversations, good company, her kitties and traveling.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Backes is preceded in death by her husband William Michael Backes.

Survivors include daughters Diane Hunter of San Jose, New Mexico, Marian Backes of Springfield, Oregon, daughter and son in law Jean and Hector Orsini, brother Leslie ("Les"), sisters Dorothy ("Dot") and Jeanette ("Jean"), grandson Michael McGuerty, special friends and caregivers Sheila and Russell Davis, Florence Wikle, Joan Hill, Marie Hutchen, and Sharon Fulbright. Phyllis is the last survivor of her immediate family.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, November 14, 2011 from 7 - 9 PM.
