William Benton Kinney

Former Atlanta Builder, William Benton Kinney, 79, dies peacefully at home after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Tommie Drew Kinney. He leaves behind his precious wife, Evelyn (Mickey) Carver Kinney.

Benton was a well known home builder in the Atlanta area in the 60's and 70's. He was instrumental in getting the Atlanta Home Builders Association started and was one of its first presidents.

Benton was dedicated to quality construction and building lifelong relationships with his home buyers. His homes were often featured in the Atlanta papers.

Mr. Kinney was known as "Gentle Ben" to his four children's friends. When they were growing up, he spent many hours providing a safe place for kids to have fun. He taught so many of them to ski at his lake home in Cumming. He took their friends on hay rides and had parade floats built in his yard. Next to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Benton loved his family. And if you were around him more than once, he'd add you to his family.

Benton and Tommie Kinney had four children, Bill (Jean) Kinney, Debra (Ed) Johnson, Ronnie (Cheryl) Kinney, Steven (Debbie) Kinney. When they each were married he added a son and three daughters.

When Benton married Evelyn (Mickey) Carver Kinney, he added three more daughters and a son. Bunny (Ray) Doster, Toni League and Allen Ramsey, Perry Carver, and Carla (Chad) Endsley.

In addition to his eight children and their spouses, Mr. Kinney leave behind 28 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, 5 sisters and 1 brother (Lavalle and Phillip Merrifield, Joyce Floyd, Ann Kinney Morecock, Mary and Arthur Hay, Peggy Sue and Chuck Webb, Peggy Sue Kinney, and Jerry Kinney. As well as numerous nieces and nephews. Benton was loved and treasured by everyone of them.

William Benton Kinney's life will be celebrated on Saturday 9/24/2011 at 2:00 PM in Cumming. GA at Ingram Funeral Home located at 210 Ingram Ave. Cumming, GA 30040.

In lieu of flowers, Mr. Kinney requested that donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite.
