Robert F. "Bill" Pitts

Mausoleum side services for Robert F. "Bill" Pitts, age 84, of Clarkesville, will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 28, 2011 from the Yonah Memorial Gardens with Rev. David Turner officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Georgia Military Honors Funeral Team.

Mr. Pitts passed away Monday, April 25, 2011 following a period of declining health.

Born May 4, 1926 in Habersham County, Mr. Pitts was the son of the late Fred Harrison and Belle Hinson Pitts. After graduating from Clarkesville High School, Mr. Pitts graduated from Truett-McConnell and he also attended Piedmont College. Mr. Pitts served six years in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a businessman in Clarkesville and he was a member of Clarkesville Masonic Lodge # 325, F&AM, he was a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason, as well as was a Shriner. Mr. Pitts was the Justice of the Peace for four years in the Fork District and four years in Clarkesville and he was the Habersham County Sheriff for sixteen years from 1972 until 1988. He was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to his parents, Mr. Pitts is preceded in death by his wife Ruth Moss Pitts, son Samuel Lee Pitts, and sister Betty Pitts Tench.

Survivors include son and daughter in law Fred Franklin and Cheryl Pitts of Clarkesville, grandson Scott Pitts and wife Georgia of Cornelia, great grandchildren Addie, Hogan, and Morgan Pitts, brother and sister in law Phillip and Katie Pitts of Demorest, sisters and brothers in law Dorothy and Ross Palmer of Jonesboro and Marie and Howard Allen of Demorest, brother in law Pete Tench of Clarkesville, brother in law Larry Moss and sister in law Birdie Moss both of Clarkesville.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 from 2-4 PM and from 6-9 PM.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Pitts Park, c/o City of Clarkesville, P.O. Box 21, Clarkesville, GA 30253.
