Hoyt Wayne Gibson

Mr. Hoyt Wayne Gibson, age, 60, of Dahlonega, GA, surrounded by his family and friends, went home to be with his Heavenly Father, Tuesday, March 15, 2011.

Wayne was born December 20, 1950 in Gainesville, GA and had lived most of his life in Lumpkin County.

Wayne was best known for his love of antique cars and his ability to operate a backhoe, He won several backhoe "Rodeo" competitions and numerous trophies and awards for his restored cars, especially his '67 Chevrolet. Wayne trained several people on the backhoe and gave them the encouragement that they could make it in the business.

Wayne attended Lumpkin County High School. He was an avid softball player and loved NASCAR and NHRA racing. He was a member of Nimblewill Baptist Church in Lumpkin County.

Wayne was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lila Mae Gibson Orr and Frank Gibson; and a sister, Joyce Crane.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Stephens Gibson, Dahlonega, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and Marvin Lingerfelt, Dahlonega, GA; grandchildren, Chastity Cantrell, Briana Lingerfelt, Trevor Lingerfelt, and Seth Lingerfelt; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Sis Gibson, Dawsonville, GA, Morris and Judy Gibson, Palm Harbor, FL, Marvin Gibson, Dawsonville, GA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Brenda and Charles Ralston, Bonaire, GA, Debbie and Don Carder, Gainesville, GA, Opal Crawford, Dahlonega, GA. A number of other relatives also survive.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 PM Friday, March 18, 2011, at the Siloam Baptist Church in Lumpkin County.

Rev. Rex Fuller, Rev. Dean Bryant, and Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Banister Funeral Home of Dahlonega on Wednesday, March 16, 2011, from 5 PM until 9 PM, all day on Thursday, and again on Friday until the time of service.
