Dr. H. Boyd Israel Ed.d.

Dr. H. Boyd Israel, Ed.d., 85, of Leesburg, GA died Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Palmyra Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 3:00 PM at Central Baptist Church. Rev. Greg Davis will officiate. Interment will be in the Carlisle Wesleyan Church Cemetery, near the Boiling Springs Community, in Spartanburg County, SC on Monday at 2:00 PM after a brief graveside ceremony. Dr. Michael Hamlet will officiate.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce M. Israel of Leesburg, GA, one daughter, Kimberly Joy Israel of Albany, GA, three sons, Timothy Alan Israel and his wife, Iva Jane f Hartsville, TN, Mark Steven Israel and his wife, Dawn of Franklin, TN and Dennis Boyd Israel of Cornelia, GA, and thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

A native of Spartanburg, SC, Dr. Israel received degrees from Wofford College, Columbia University and the Specialist and Doctorate Degrees from Peabody College, Vanderbilt University in Educational Administration. He served from as a Non-Commissioned Officer in the Combat Engineers in World War II and later a Reserve Officer in the Adjutant General's Corps during the 1950's. Professional experiences included YMCA Boy's Activities, Elementary and High School Teacher, General Office Management-Payroll Administration, Pequot Textile Mill, Teaching Principal, McColl, SC, Supervising Principal, Fort Benning Children's Schools, Director of Instruction, Wadesboro, North Carolina Schools, Academic Dean-Registrar, Wingate University, Administrative Assistant to the President, Chairman Social Sciences New Baptist College (Southern University), Charleston, Supervisor, Teacher Education, South Carolina Department of Education, Columbia, SC, Director of Project Success-Interim Assistant Superintendent, Cobb County Schools, Marietta, GA, Founding Director, Southwest Georgia Regional Education Service Agency, Leary, GA. In semi retirement, Dr. Israel served as an Adjunct Instructor at Albany State University from 1990 until 1998 and later at Darton College.

He was a member of Central Baptist Church, a deacon and taught the Crusaders Sunday School Class. He was an avid political science student and wrote a weekly editorial on critical federal issues for the Lee Ledger during the past five years.
