Gary Wood

Gary Wood, age 71 of Dahlonega and formerly of Cornelia, passed away Sunday, September 26, 2010, at a personal care home following a brief illness.

Born in Habersham County on September 16, 1939, he was the son of the late Edgar and Ida Irvin Wood. He was retired as a machine operator at Habersham Broom Company. He was a member of Level Grove Baptist Church and an avid NASCAR fan. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Wayne Wood; brother, Frank Wood and sister, Helen Wood.

Surviving are wife, Carolyn Gragg Wood of Dahlonega; son and daughter-in-law, Larry & Christine Wood of Cleveland; son, Douglas Wood of Baldwin; grandchildren, Tonia Ballinger of Demorest, Kalya Wood of Demorest, Shannon Worley of Mt. Airy, Caitlin Wood of Demorest and Melissa Wood of Demorest; great grandchildren, Tyler Schaffhauser, Annalee Balinger, Landon Groover and Layla Worley.

Memorial services are 2:00 pm Thursday, September 30, 2010, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Thomas Gragg officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 pm until the funeral hour on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Gary Wood Memorial Fund, PO Box 725, Cornelia, GA 30531.
The family is at the residence of son, Douglas Wood, 298 Donalyn Lane, Baldwin, GA 30511.
