Muryl T. Shumaker

Private memorial services will be held at a later date for Muryl T. Shumaker, 94, formerly of Martel, Ohio, who passed away July 16, 2010. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Gerald and Harlo Shumaker.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Edith; daughter Elizabeth of Ohio; granddaughter, Diann Cage of St. Louis, great grandchildren, Audrey and Quinn; stepsons, David and Mark Eldridge; step grandchildren Devon Milford, Nicholas Eldridge, Jillian and Zackary Eldridge; step great grandson Landon Milford and a number of nieces and nephews.

Muryls life was centered around poultry. He attended Ohio State University majoring in poultry husbandry. While there he played in the Ohio State Marching band. Once in Gainesville, he worked as managing editor of the Poultry Times retiring in 1982. During retirement, he enjoyed the art of pottery and basket weaving; at one time he taught basket weaving at the Senior Center. He was a member of Gainesville First United Methodist Church, the Gadabouts and a founder of the Believers Band.
