Madge Elliott

Obituary Date: Saturday, July 3, 2010
Mrs. Madge Elliott 89, of Gainesville passed away July 3, 2010 surrounded by her family and caregivers. Mrs. Elliott was born March 15, 1921 in Dawson County, to the late W.A. (Billy) Godfrey and Ollie White Godfrey. She was also preceded in death her husband of 55 years, T.L. Elliott, Jr., daughter, Jeral Dean Elliott, son, William Thomas Elliott and granddaughter, Charlene Hatcher.

Madge was the oldest member of Chestatee Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for several years. Madge and T.L. established T.L. Elliott's Grocery and Hardware near Murrayville in 1955, where she continued to work and help operate for the next 58 years. They also operated a station on the Old Dawsonville Highway for a number of years.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law; Maxine and Benny Hatcher, Joyce and Gene Bryant, Janice and Jimmy Justus, son B.T. (Doc) Elliott and daughter Dianne Satterfield. Grandchildren, Loretta and Gilbert Sexton, Elaine and David Black, Gary and Sheree Elliott, Leisa and Barry Babb, Cheryl and Ricky Pendley, Kaye and Steven Jackson, Jamie and Ricky West, Jay and Karen Justus, Shane and Hellery Satterfield, Ryan and Sharon Satterfield. Also surviving are 21 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Mrs. Mae Castleberry and Mrs. Grace Smith, and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday July 6, 2010 at the Chestatee Baptist Church. The Rev. David Skinner and the Rev. John Bryant will officiate. Interment will be in the Church Cemetery with the Rev. Chris Gilbert officiating. The body will lie in state at the church Tuesday from 1:30 p.m. until the funeral hour. The family will receive friends at the Little & Davenport Funeral Home Sunday July 4, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and Monday July 5, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
