James Lee Ivory

Mr. James Lee Ivory of Oakwood, GA went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 5, 2010.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Willie Mae (Sutton) Ivory and his brother Oscar Mitchell Ivory.


He was a faithful member of St. John Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the Deacon's Board for five years and taught adult Sunday School until his health failed.

Mr. Ivory served in the United States Army during the Viet Nam War. He was a 1964 graduate of E. E. Butler High School where he played trumpet in the marching and concert bands.

He leaves to cherish memory his wife of 33 years, Cathy Wright Ivory, one son, Deandrea Ivory, Atlanta, GA, one daughter, Chunese Ivory of Jacksonville, Florida. One brother, Charles (Gloria) Ivory of Trenton, NJ, two sisters, Joanne Ivory Lightfoot and Debra (Barry) Storey of Gainesville, GA, his mother-in-law. Catherine Wright of Gainesville, GA, eight sister-in-laws, Alicia Wright, Lilburn, GA, Teresa (Harold) Buffington, Gainesville, GA, Phyllis(Will) Byrd, Atlanta, GA, Sandra Harrison, Latonia Wright, and Lawana Wright, Hallema (Miguel) Avana, Fatimah (Javier)Almodovar of Gainesville, GA, three brother-in-laws, James (Channel) Wright III, Gainesville, GA, Edward Charles Wright, Atlanta, GA, and Wallace Smith of Gainesville, GA, devoted friends, Emerson(Kitty) Stow, Lovie (Dixie) Smith and Marilyn Pohlman, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 10, 2010 from 7-9pm at the Wimberly & Jackson Chapel. Homegoing Clelebration will be held Friday, June 11, 2010 at 11:00am at the St. John Baptist Church, 741 E.E. Butler PKWY, Gainesville, 770-532-0511.
