Roy William Thomas

Mr. Roy William Thomas, 87, of Lula died Friday January 15, 2010 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

A lifelong resident of Hall County, Mr. Thomas was the son of the late Solomon and Florence Loggins Thomas. Mr. Thomas was retired from Georgia Chair Company with over 35 years of service, he also worked for TEV, Inc., Lanier Park Hospital and was also a farmer. Mr. Thomas served in the U.S. Army in Germany during World War II and was a member and deacon of Bethlehem Baptist Church for over 40 years.

Survivors include his Wife of 62 years, Winnie Lewallen Thomas, Lula; Sons and Daughters-in-law; Wayne R. and Patti Thomas, Randy N. and Linda Thomas, Kevin J. and Debbie Thomas, all of Lula. Grandchildren; Tiffany and Neal Jones, Lula; Carter and Sunshine Thomas, Buford; Brandon and Lynn Thomas, Lula; Elizabeth Grindle, Griffin; Jessica Thomas, Benjamin Thomas, Rev. Matthew Thomas and Macy Thomas, all of Lula; Great Grandchildren; Alex Scott, Rory Scott, Cayla Jones, Carlie Jones, all of Lula; Dallas Thomas, Austin Thomas, both of Buford; Alexandria Grindle and Robert Grindle, both of Canton; and Brennan Thomas, Lula; Sister and Brother-in-law; Elease and Bill Sharpton, Cleveland; Brothers; Merlin Thomas, Cline Thomas, both of Lula; Brother and Sister-in-law; the Rev. Jewell and Betty Thomas, Lula; Sister-in-law; Ruby Thomas, Lula; Special Friend, Harold Thompson who served in basic training and all thru World War II with Mr. Thomas of Conyers; Brothers-in-law and Sisters-in-law; Garland and Reba Lewallen, Baldwin; Jimmy and Virginia Lewallen, Gainesville; Marvin and Joyce Lewallen, Gainesville; Bobby Lewallen, Talmo; Danny and Peggy Lewallen, Gainesville; David and Shelby Lewallen, Gainesville. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Thomas is preceded in death by his brothers, Rev. Wiley Thomas and Willie Fay Thomas and a grandson, Kim Scott.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday January 18, 2010 at the Bethlehem Baptist Church. The Rev. Loyd Martin, Rev. Wayne Strickland, Rev. Paul Morris and Rev. Matthew Thomas will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Rev. Johnny Stone officiating. The remains of Mr. Thomas will lie in state at the church Monday from 1:30 p.m. until the funeral hour. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Little & Davenport Funeral Home.
