Gertrude Wood Smith

Gertrude Wood Smith, age 85, of the Fairview Community, Demorest, GA, passed away Sunday, November 29, 2009.



Born in Habersham County, on April 6, 1924 she was a daughter of the late Oliver and Ella Smith Wood. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Smith, great-granddaughter, Kara Grace Smith. She was a member of the Providence Baptist Church served as the Church Clerk for many years. Mrs. Smith served as a production worker and retired from Piedmont Automotive with 37 years of service.



Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Tony Irvin, Demorest, GA and Carolyn and Mike Colston, Demorest, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Robin Smith, Demorest, GA and Doyle and Linda Smith, Demorest, GA; sisters, Hazel Hooper, Clarkesville, GA, Pauline Morrison, Clarkesville, GA, Eunice Allen, Clarkesville, GA, Katrina Robertson, Cornelia, GA, Lougene Wall, Cornelia, GA and Estelle Adams, Cornelia, GA; 8 grandchildren and spouses, Chad and Allison Smith, Clarkesville, GA, Kerry and Cindy Smith, Nicholson, GA, Danny Smith, Winston-Salem, NC, Jalene Smith, Demorest, GA, Rich and Michelle Wilbanks, Clarkesville, GA, Jason and Misty Bull, Alto, GA, Todd and Ashley Irvin, Cornelia, GA and Wesley and Michelle Irvin, Clarkesville, GA; 9 great-grandchildren, Hawk, Aden and Elijah Smith Clarkesville, GA, Olivia and Alexa Smith, Nicholson, GA, Cole, Jess and Canon Wilbanks, Clarkesville, GA, and Caroline Bull of Alto, GA.



Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at the Providence Baptist Church with Rev. Don Drawdy and Rev. Steve Frazier officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.



The family will receive friends at 2-4 and 6-8 on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, GA.
